We’ve never met. I’m pretty sure that doing so wouldn’t change much, but if you felt the need to conduct a debate honorably, I’d be more than happy to. Then again you work for MSNBC–so I realize the very definition of honor is something of a lost concept in your work environment.
You also seem to be a genuinely confused individual:

But it seems to me that we marshal this word in a way that is problematic. But maybe I’m wrong about that.”
No maybe about it Chris… You ARE wrong.
You and your other leftist friends don’t even comprehend the basic series of circumstances as to how you were even given the opportunity to speak on-air, and to have an audience (albeit the 5 people watching MSNBC on weekends) listening. I’m not referring to the specific circumstances under which you were able to land a job with MSNBC. But rather I’m referring to the specific series of historic events that allow people with confused and misguided ideas, like yourself, the freedom to spew them in public, regardless of how patently offensive they may be.
There are few people in history that nearly the entire universe always rally against, but those few are legendary: Nazi’s, Child Sex Traffickers, and now we can add MSNBC “hosts” who say that to honor a fallen U.S. warrior is “rhetorically proximate” to warmongering. (Congrats on making the club!)
Because you said it over a weekend–a holiday weekend honoring our fallen warriors–you may confuse Monday’s low key response to your absurd and offensive admission of confusion on your part as some sort of a pass.
Don’t be misled.
Tomorrow the torrents of Patriots, Americans, Talk Show Hosts, Editorial pages, and Bloggers from across the political, religious, and societal spectrum will level your incredibly dense brainwaves, and truly–almost confoundingly–offensive verbal vomit as one of the most sincerely, deeply, and genuinely hurtful, short-sighted, politically motivated evidences of buffoonery to ever hit America air-waves.
Already calls for your termination are rounding the universes of facebook and twitter.
But then again you are employed by MSNBC and they would desperately miss your 5 remaining viewers.
You might be confused about what makes a hero…
But there is nothing confusing to genuine America-loving people about how we should treat and respect those who fell for the cause of the freedoms and liberties many others were felled for many years previously.
One of my friends on facebook this morning put it this way:
A Veteran is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a blank check payable to the United States of America for an amount up to and including their life. That is beyond honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer remember that fact. We need to honor those who have served daily. Whenever you see someone in uniform or wearing clothing or ink that tells you they served, take the time to shake their hand and thank them for their service!
God grants mankind the divine right to be free. America–through her simple existence–affirms this divine right. And whether you or MSNBC care or not, real Americans, honorable people, and truly honest citizens have no problem understanding that wearing the uniform earns you greater respect, and falling while wearing it, gives you that respect eternally.
