THE HEADLINE ITEM: With the victory in the Supreme Court today gun advocates across California are assuming that they will soon have to right to carry protection on their persons–even if it is concealed. On Fox this afternoon Bob Beckel, took great exception with me on that. But here’s the point people. Guns are neither GOOD nor BAD left to themselves. It’s all in how they are used. 2. THE PRACTICAL DILEMMA: In Ohio, that state’s Supreme Court voted 5 to 1 to allow organizations to fire those who take extended leaves of absences. I.E.: The case came before the court because nurse Tiffany McFee was fired from her job in Pataskala, a town of 10,000 located 22 miles east of Columbus. The Pataskala Oaks Care Center fired her because she took pregnancy leave eight months after being hired. Nursing home policy requires employees to be on the job a year before taking an extended leave.  866.348.7884

THE HEADLINE ITEM: On three rather significant items the administration is telling us that things can’t be done. President Obama has allowed the popular opinion to take root that the oil spill can not be stopped for months to come. Joe Biden said over the weekend that the economy can not ever recover the lost jobs (that they promised the stimulus bill would re-create.) And today Janet Napolitano exclaimed that the border can not be sealed. Whatever happened to Yes We Can? Why?

THE CLARITY CORNER: The Supreme Court ruled today that the Hastings School of Law in San Francisco can disallow the Christian Legal Society. The reason, at least as claimed by the law school, “discrimination against non-believers and homosexuals.” The CLS claims that allowing or being required to let all club members to have equal access to leadership within its ranks could lead to letting non-believers and homosexuals teach the Bible studies that are held week to week. Lastly the Hastings argument is a lie, because the Christian Legal Society would indeed allow non-believers, homosexual or not, attend the meetings.

2. Did President Obama bank on this? One of General McChrystal’s real frustrations in his assignment in Afghanistan was the civilian chain of command’s desire to tighten the rules of engagement so as to not allow American military troops to be able to engage the enemy as easily. Now reports indicate General Petraeus may be taking more aggressive rule of engagement as a strategic move in one of his first acts. The gulf region will lose millions in lost wages, and the drilling platforms will head to other places around the world. Now a judge says that the Obama administration fundamentally lied in their explanation before the court as to why the moratorium should stand, and over turns the ban on drilling.
